Swiss Ham Scallop

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • ½ cup sliced green onion
  • 2 tsp dill
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 large peeled and finely sliced potatoes
  • 3 cups diced cooked ham
  • ¼ cup fine dry bread crumbs

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Combine 3/4 cup of the cheese with the onion and the dill. Set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in the flour, and then add the milk gradually. Add salt to taste (not too much). Cook and stir over medium heat until the sauce thickens, and then cook 1-2 minutes longer. Remove from heat and blend in the sour cream.
  3. Grease a 2 qt casserole.
    Layer:
    1/3 of the potatoes
    ½ of the ham
    ½ of the cheese-onion mixture
    ½ of the sauce
    1/3 of the potatoes
    ½ of the ham
    ½ of the cheese-onion mixture
    ½ of the sauce
    last 1/3 of the potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs and the rest of the cheese on top. Bake at 350 °F for 1 hr, covered. Bake 15 minutes more, uncovered, until bubbly and brown and the potatoes are tender.
