INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 large pears, firm (don’t use soft ripe pears)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted, plus 1 teaspoon for the pan
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly butter the bottom of a 9 X 13 baking dish. Halve and core the pears. You can do this with a melon baller, or with a paring knife.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, vanilla, ginger and cinnamon. Brush the pears with the mixture on both sides. Arrange the pears in the prepared baking dish, cut side down. Bake them until fork-tender, about 30 minute, basting at the 15 minute point with the pan juices. Brush the pears one last time with the pan juices, drizzle with maple syrup and serve warm.
  3. Serving suggestion: fill the cores with pepitas and dried cranberries
