Hildegard's Brown Bread

Nice heavy country bread, baked at Christina lake

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 cups white flour
  • 1/2 cup olive or sunflower oil
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 cups dark rye flour
  • 1 cup flax seed
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons salt
  • 3 packets traditional yeast

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Stir 8 cups of warm (about 110 degrees F) water into the mixture in the bowl.
  3. Using extra AP flour to avoid dough sticking to your hands, knead until the dough is no longer sticky.
  4. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. Put into greased bread pans and let rise again for another hour.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees F for 1 hour.
  7. Turn out of the pans pans let cool a little.
