A favourite Christmas goodie at the Shaw house

INGREDIENTS:
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cups honey
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 3/4 cup ground almonds
- 3/4 cup citron peel
- 3/4 cup chipped almonds
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups sour cream
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp cinamon
- 1 tsp star anis seed (ground)
- 1 tsp cardomom
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
DIRECTIONS:
- Mix sugar, butter, honey and molasses in a pot. Bring to a boil, stirring often. Set aside and let cool.
- Mix the flour with the spices. Add the citron peel and chipped almonds.
- Mix baking soda into the sour cream. Beat eggs and cooled sugar mixture into the flour mixture. Mix well and scoop into the prepared pan.
- Heat the oven to 350 °rees; (325 degrees for a convection oven). Butter and flour a 9 X 13 pan. Bake the cake for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Melt 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips with 2 tbsp butter and 2 tbl water. Brush on top of cooked cake. Cut into squares.
