Though Scandinavian cuisine has gotten a turn-of-the-century facelift through the Michelin-starred restaurant, Noma, there's really nothing better on a cold, snowy day than a cozy, hearty chowder loaded with potatoes and tender fish. In Nordic countries, where salmon, cod, crab, and potatoes are staples, hearty soups and creamy stews using local ingredients are just as common as meticulously-plated elk medallions and sliced truffles.  Continue Reading

Ginger Snaps

One of our year-round favourites. Often made by Oma and the grandchildren

Baked Eggs on a Bed of Roasted Cherry Tomatoes

Eggs baked on top of tiny halved tomatoes, topped with a sprinkle of Parmesan and basil, make a simple, delicious breakfast or quick dinner. We highly recommend serving this with toasted bread (goat cheese on whole-grain toast is perfect!) or something similar.

Cauliflower Soup with Hazelnuts and Bacon

Creamy puréed soups always benefit from having crunchy things sprinkled on top. This recipe is from Waterfront Wines, in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Chicken Piccata - sauteed chicken with lemon caper sauce

Sometimes a simple combination of basic ingredients gives a supremo result. This dish is an Italian specialty and is also commonly cooked in French Provence.

Just swap in veal cutlets to change this into Veal Piccata

Apple Strudel

This Apple Strudel is easy and fun to make. The resulting strudel is a delicious, festive dessert just like the ones you would get in Germany filled with sweet, spiced apples and nuts in a flaky crust that everyone will love!

Creamy White Bean Rosemary Soup

Creamy and delicious

Chicken, Pancetta Wrapped

Genuine Italian home cooking from Berta, who lives just outside of San Gimignano, Italy

Farfalle with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

A kid friendly recipe, but the whole family will love it.

Greek Parmesan Yogurt Chicken

If there’s an easier way to turn boneless, skinless chicken breasts into a killer, creamy, cheese-topped dinner, we don’t know what it is. This is a Shaw family favourite.

Courgette Fritters

These fritters make a nice light lunch or impressive starter and are also great as a snack or canapé with drinks. If you are serving them as a snack, make them slightly smaller – 1 heaped teaspoon rather than the 1 heaped tablespoon needed for the larger portion.
